Fleur Pierets present her first video since 22-The Project a performance where she and her wife wanted to get married in all countries where marriage between the same sexes was allowed.
562 is a list of the 562 questions she has been asked as a lesbian woman in recent years. Questions ranging from ‘Are you sure?’ and ‘How can your parents still be proud of you?’ to ‘You know you’re going to hell, right?’. Seated on a chair, sometimes live, sometimes in a filmed version, Pierets reflects on these questions and asks them back.
562 functions as a mirror in which visitors are confronted with their ideologies and assumptions, whether rigid or not. Fascinated by identity and community, Pierets asks how much of our character is fixed, how much of it is shaped by your environment, and how all of this influences your perspective on the world.
In her art work and books, Pierets tries to capture the present time and see how it functions at the level of equal rights. By observing and documenting, 562 shows how the world changes, evolves and sometimes folds back again. The ultimate question she poses with the performance: can you bend or reshape external limitation in order to break through normative constructions?
